Not really that mysterious...they made a great deal of variations of this gun and they were used from Civil war on...plus some. This site has them and they aren't expensive...but they aren't Japanesemarked... COLT FLUTED CYLINDER ARMY REVOLVER

A guy at a gun show about 6 months ago had about eight of these Belgian revolvers laid out on a table. Some had makers marks, all had Japanese(or Chinese) characters on them. I thought they were really interesting, and should have bought one. Of course the guy selling them didn't know any info about them. Really neat revolver there!
Pinfires made it to some odd places in the world. Never seen one with Japanesemarkings, but it doesn't surprise me.
Anyone know what the Japanesewriting says?
