    DoD Cartouche

I'm usually pretty good about being able to authenticate markings from pictures, but this one appears to have been double stamped a bit and has been tough to verify. I'd appreciate a second opinion. It's on a 1955 5.8 million SA.

    Thanks a whole lot!

I'd have a hard time believing anyone would falsify one of those...they aren't the expensive ones...on M1s.

Well, the "snoopy cartouche" really threw me for a loop and I'd sleep better if I could get an "A-OK" from someone in the know.

So, are you saying it looks good to you?

I'm not good enough to give you a decent opinion. But my stock came off an IHC some years back in Canadaicon... The snoopy was done to M14icon's though I think...?

I acquired a M1icon NM from DCM sales at Camp Perry and the DoD cartouche is similarly jumped or double struck. A friend of mine attending the same National Matches, who could care less about the marking, got one with a single clean strike. I had to to say "Why me?" but at least I can say that the cartouche you provide image of is nearly identical to my rifle that came through the system from Springfield Armory.

This is a Late SA 5.6 million of later and was used on the later NM's. As far as faking the DAS,,,, many have tried and here is the latest DAS forgery I have found on two stocks a guy bought at a Michigan show from two different dealers. This means it is being used heavily. One of these was on an Italianicon stock that they tried to pass off as a IHC. I call it """The DAS on Steroids""" Rick Bicon

Bob if you remember long before it hit the GCAicon I was almost banned and was once for fighting over these fakes from the Air Force Base and more. Barry Redding threaten a class action lawsuit back in 2003 against me over these supposed marked at the AF base stocks. They had every manufacture made and he didn't get that the stamps were from the Manufacture. Him and ole Karl Kraus were wrecking the west coast for many years. I was the only one back then to take them all on publicly and I took allot of flak for it as many called me a hard head and trouble maker. Took me allot of years to show some I new what I was talking about Rick B

    Snoopy

Yes, Rick, I remember your lonely fight at the time. Initially, many of us just regarded it as yet another bad fake in a long line of them. The real impetus for GCAicon was the revelation that the faker was a GCA member. Then we had to nail it down totally. The Association had a lot at risk and had to get it right, so we were as thorough as we could get. The same caution applied in our exposure of that fake M1C with the forged documents from a notorious crook down South. We spent months accumulating evidence to prove conclusively what we knew to be true.

Interesting. You guys have done a great service to collectors in doing what you can to expose the fakers out there. It is appreciated.
