Steyr Hahn 1918

Just got this today in the mail. The bore is pretty dirty but otherwise it looks alright. It has a chip in one of the grips, but that is the only cosmetic damage. It came with a box of 16 rounds on strippers. I have no idea of the age or providence of this ammo so if someone recognizes it and can give me info that would be great. Also, if anyone has advice on where to get ammunition for the pistol I would appreciate it. Thanks for taking a look.

Had one years ago that came with ammo. Locking surfaces on the barrel were set back quite a ways, so they got welded up and machined back into shape. Fun to unload the unfired rounds from the grip! "Cartridge shower"

Austrian army issue. The proof marks are above the trigger on the right side, confirms 1918 production. The S on the left is standard, the Ks are the inspector's initial (I think he inspected most of them, busy guy!). Steyr used the same system the Germans later adopted, groups of 10,000 with a letter suffix. About 300,000 total production including some early commercial sales.

Rarer are Chilean, Romanian, and Bavarian contract guns. Yours looks very nice. I would assume the ammo you have is corrosive. Fiocchi produces it but it's not common nor cheap.

There was a lot of this GECO ammo imported into Canada along with Chilean pistols 35 years ago. The ammo was supposed to have been made in the 1930s.
