Brand-New No. 1 Mk. 3 HB Contour Barrels Available

Last year I was the happy recipient of four brand-new CNC-machined No. 4 Mk. 1 rifle barrels. These have delivered exceptional accuracy. We are currently attempting to find enough interested individuals to arrange another order, this time of the Heavy-Contour No. 1 Mk. 3 Lee Enfield Barrel. If anybody is interested, we are collecting names. Lothar Walther, a renowned barrel manufacturer will make a run based on an exact CNC copy of our barrel contour sample. Just a hint for potential "Barrel Barons".

When Lithgow was churning out replacement No4 barrels, (you know, the ones WITHOUT bayonet lugs),in 1965, they came in two models.

The difference was in the "start", indexing', qualification" of the breech thread.

There was a detailed specification to define the "start point" of the breeching thread. Part of that information includes the following NOTE!:

"For all replacement barrels, point 'A' must be retarded between 10 and 15 degrees to compensate for body deformation."

And where is "point 'A' "?

On the major diameter of the tenon, 10 degrees and 8 minutes above horizontal!

SMLE (and earlier, barrels) are just a bit more tricky. The thread, whilst 14TPI, has a different form and has a different (as yet unknown) datum. They are also DESIGNED to breech up on the INNER breech ring, NOT the front face of the receiver/body. (Just like Mausers, which ALSO use 55deg. Whitworth form threads, are SUPPOSED to.)

And don't forget that the "proper" SMLE thread is "sort-of" a giant BA thread. It has radiused roots and crests, but of two different radii, and an included form angle of 49deg. 40min. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT BA, Whitworth or, heaven forbid 60deg. Unified".

Bruce, thanks for the input. As to the availability of orders: the barrels are meant to be available to all international buyers, subject to your own country's rules on firearm parts importation. I would suggest that you check your own country's customs regulations. If you check with Brett, he can tell you re: any issues that have cropped up in the past.
