    K98 Mauser/ VZ24?

Attachment 51188Attachment 51187I have a deact Mauser rifle which i am not sure what it is, K98icon or VZ24.
It has a nazi stamped fold over bolt. Most VZ24s have a polished straight bolts.
The woodwork is reccessed to accomidate this bolt. The receiver ring is blank apart from a small Brno stamp, a small circle with a z in the middle, same on the barrel, the other side it has the serial number. Seen one of these as a vet bring back from Normandy, wondered if it was a reserve gun for reserve units in the German army. Anyone have any clues.

Looks like a Polish Wz.29/K.29. The (Z) mark was also used on Polish-made rifles, the front sight base is correct, and the handguard-retaining lip on the receiver ring is another clue. If it's been scrubbed, it may be one of those Wz.29s the Poles sent to the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. I think it's likely that it picked up a Germanicon Kar.98k bolt during/after importation. All Wz.29s had the recess for the bent bolt handle whether or not they actually had a bent bolt.

Interesting, there seems to be no evidence of anything being scrubbed on the receiver ring where a crest would be, everything else relates to a wz29, it seems that there are very few marks. I have some more pictures to post of markings which I will post, tried to do it today but the the site kept crashing for extra picture. I now wonder what the Germans done with captured wz29 rifles when they occupied Poland.

Spanish civil war WZ29 it looks like to me. I have one with a straight bolt. They say the straight was for infantry and the bent was cavalry. Mine still had grease in the barrel and I don't think it was shot since it was sent here.

The Poles scrubbed all of the Kar98a rifles they sold to Spain. Nicely done, but many of them had bad bores and the Poles were happy to get rid of them.

The trade mark with a z in a circle, I thought this was a Brno cezh proof stamp, why is this on a Polish made gun? Is this a Polish proof stamp then.
