Restamp Numbers?

Was wondering what you guys would think about re stamping the serial number on the wrist of my No.4 to make it more legible ? All the other stamped numbers are quite clear but the wrist is very faded..

No, leave its original. Especially on a T. Any tampering will really hurt the value.

Re-stamping the serial numbers, that's the way to make a sow's ear out of a silk purse........possibly an illegal one at that.

Matter appears settled but vintage hunter has a good point. Do not monkey with serial numbers in the USA without prior approval from the ATF. They can grant permission in such cases as needed, but it's generally verboten.

Thankyou Homer....I guess if it was more advisable I would have freshened up the "A"in the beginning of the serial and maybe the "3" in the 1943 but now I have reconsidered. probably not a good idea. if you have the time to look at my other photos the other stampings are quite clear. Thank you for the comments..!

Yes, restamping could make it "questionable". Who needs that.

On the other hand................ We'd think nothing of overstamping a serial number if the original were illegible or otherwise indistinct (which yours ain't.....) As I often say, Fazakerley were past masters of the illegible marking trick!
