    odd "W" k98 reciever markings?

Hoping someone can help me identify this marking.
I'm looking at a 1937 Mauser Oberndorf k98 and aside from the usual weimar eagle and serial number, the side of the reciever is also marked with two "W"'s on top of each other with a cross or some such through the middle.

Like below, only close enough that the letters are touching:
    +
    W
    W

Any info? Is this a post-war capture or proof mark?

I've looked through everything I thought might show this marking, but can't seem to find anything. Any chance of a pic? I'd like to see that marking.
