    What is it?

This might be a Lee-Enfield SMLE No. 1 MK VI. Then again...who knows?
Receiver, bolt, and barrel have matching numbers. Chamber and bore are excellent. Metal finish is no better than 8/10. The stamped info on the left side of the butt socket reads:
    ENGLAND
    NO.1 MKVI
    28579A
    Best regards,

It is indeed a No.1 Mk.VI. In need of minor help to make it presentable in roughly WWII era rebuild guise. Forestock, handguards, etc. Bolt, rear sight look like replacements as do some other minor bits, but that's fine. No sense trying to put it back into it's original guise at this point! Very nice.

It is most likely one of the spare SMLE Mk VI receivers pulled out of store and sent to Fazakerly during the arms shortage after Dunkirk. Its proper woodwork would be early '41 style. Great find!!
