Spurious USMC Markings

Bought this a while ago. Not sure of the markings. Legit or not??

I have seen a lot of those cleaning rod section cases, different size drawing numbers and different color canvas - but never seen one marked USMC ? but they could have marked them.

Here are two examples of WW1 shovel covers issues to US Navy ships, one is marked USMCAttachment 53989Attachment 53990

Just received this from a dealer of Surplus Parts and Webgear. He stated: The markings were put on by the Marine Corp., not the contract. The maker FAL was Fals Manufacturing in Des Moines, Iowa. The production was from Oct 44 thru Jan 45.
