One hopes humanity took over and the prisoner was cared for, maybe they chased away the civies to protect this soldier! To rise above and treat a surrendered or injured enemy is what set the Allies apart from the other sides.
How do we know he's alive?

Guess you cannot blame them still at least they can smile there are not to many smiling faces from the carnage of war, perhaps he was covered by his comrades after his demise and perhaps a war photographer always on the look out had a quick "Look here's the enemy pose for us will ya the folks back home will love it"![]()
I thought this one had been talked about this photo before and he was wounded. Ah, my memory isn't what it used to be![]()
