Now, I thought all P14s were made during the first war...? That appeared here on a thread last week.

10,000? P14s had to have new stocks made when they came out of storage and were meant to be Weedon'ised just before or early WW2. I assume this is a small clip of just such a re-manufacture.

They must have cut the recesses for the volley sight and brass disc at some point after assembly,or were these stocks (the P 14 stocks) a later version that didn't come with these additions? Neither the stock five minutes into the film nor the auction stock appear to have these cutouts. Anyone know? Tom

The Weedon replacement stocks (Mark 2) definitely did not have provisions for volley sights. I gather they can be distinguished from Model 1917 stocks by the length of the grips.

The Weedon repair std removed the volley sight arms and yes the new stock didnt have the wood machining done for it, so my book says. Boy I wish I could get my hands on those inspector jigs.

The pic I posted of that auction un-issued stock seems to show this.
