    BSA serial number stamp

I have read that BSA serial numbers were stamped on the bolt handle with a distinctive font.

Can anyone show me an example of this font?

I am looking at buying a 44 BSA with an M prefix but the M looks a bit wonky. Anyone happen to have an M prefix example?

    Thanks in advance

I don't think that there was a specific font as such. They just bought in commercially manufactured letter/number stamps. Just like the MoD did.

Yes, & original BSA bolts will have the hollowed out bolt handle knob. The stamping is usually fairly deep & not particularly tidy - but always legible.

I believe he was referring to BSA Shirley, which would make the rifle a No. 4 Mk 1.
