I'm a little surprised that the second American soldier doesn't have his rifle leveled at the two prisoners.

True, but I'll bet there's at least a squad minus that aren't in the picture.

Considering there is also another soldier waiting in the cave to surrender that these may be Korean's that were force to work for the Japanese.

Quite possible. That would almost be a case of being able to re-equip and re-arm and point them back towards the Japanese. Never happen, but you almost could.
