    US 1907 Sling

I recently picked up a 1907 sling in reasonable condition. I will be cleaning it up a bit because there is a lot of verdigris on the brass and the leather has some cracking from being left on a rifle in storage for over 45 years. Other than that even though it has seen some abuse from not being cleaned or oiled it is a good representative example and some Ballistol will help to preserve it.

I need some help identifying the manufacturer

Inspector - JEW = WWI inspector of leather kit.

    Manufacturer - M.W.H. Co.

    Date - not dated.

I suspect this sling was made by a sub contractor or maybe even off shore. I have looked at several on line sites that list slings and manufacturers to no avail.

Any documented information would be much appreciated. TIA.

Do not use Ballistol, it is one of the worst things you can use, even worse than Pecards. Use small amounts of pure neatsfoot oil or lanolin.

Everyone is fascinated by Ballistol and, supposedly it was used by the Germanicon army through two World Wars on their leather goods and maybe it was, but they, like GIs everywhere also made use of used motor oil on their leather goods, too. To the combat soldier, leather accoutrements and boots were throw away items, use them until they wear out and toss them when issued a replacement and start the process again. The German military manuals called for flaxseed oil on leather. Ballistol was used only because it was available.
