#88384 is not listed in Mallory's appendix (Krag rifle Story) of 'Serial numbers of known U.S. Krags'. Closest Model 1896 Rifle numbers are 88261 (destroyed at New Cumberland Guard facility, 5/17/29) and 88421 (Singer bore treatment test, 02/04/99). Of course, 'close' means nothing.
