Any reason for doing this to a "long channel" stock?

Saw this stock on auction that has extra "milling" to the barrel channel. Is there any known reason to do this other than "just to make sure the slide doesn't hit there?" Maybe it was necessary to make it fit a commercial carbine action? Thanks! - Bob

Yeah, the seller describes that area as being "milled." - Bob

That (hack job) might be a clearance cut for the barrel clamp of the mounting bar for the IR sniperscope. In the right location. Military Manual for this mod indicated the area is to be "gouged".

Agreed, it is for some kind of scope. And by heavens it has been gouged!
