    Model1922 M1 sales rifle

I have a Model of 1922 M1icon, cal. .22 sales rifle #8673. My question is when the government sold the guns, did they have scope blocks already on them or did they buyer put them on? Would they be 1903 scope blocks or the commercial O & E blocks. Thanks Steve

Congratulations on having a fine rifle. It is listed as having been sold on 11-16-27. I happen to have 1922M1 number 8674 in my collection. These rifles came from SA drilled and tapped on the receiver and barrel for scope blocks. I don't think you could order the rifle with scope blocks from SA. The "O" and "E" was the Lyman code for the blocks. They would fit both the 1903 and 1922 series.

The correct blocks would be a Lyman "O" and Lyman "E". They are stamped with letter on the bottom of the block. The early blocks had smooth edges on both sides and a small hole beneath the edge. This was to engage the pointed screw that tightened the ring onto the block. Later blocks had a half moon cutout on the edge of the block. If you have a scope to mount on the be sure you have the correct type blocks. I don't know if Unertl, who came on the scene long after Lyman, adopted the same letter code of the blocks as Lyman.

I have a set of O & E marked blocks, they have both, the hole on one side plus the half moon cut out on the other side. Steve
