    Springfield 1922 M2 Magazine Disassembly?

Is there a correct/safe way to disassemble the Springfield M2 magazine? If so, pictures of the process would be a great help.

I have a few that really need a good cleaning inside. I have soaked, sprayed etc.., but they still need a little more. As many magazines as I have disassembled over the years, these have me a little confused. Also, I don't dare pry on one to experiment. Thanks.

According to War Department Technical TM 9-280, Caliber.22 Rifles, All Types, dtd 16 March, 1944 on Page 32 paragraph c. " The magazine tube tube is a permanent assembly and no attempt should ever made to take it apart". The tube they are referring to is what I would call the body of the magazine. Regardless of the warning there are folks who have disassembled them. I have evidence of this in an M2 magazine that bubba re-assembled with the magazine base upside down.

Herschel, now that took some serious bubba thought to put it in like that.

I had read that the body was a permanent part and just took it they meant the "body". I have also seen magazine springs, followers and base plates for sale and was not sure if they were spare components or aftermarket.

If there were a safe/correct way to disassemble, I would do it. If not, I will keep trying to spray out the gunk.
