Gentlemen,
I wish to ask your advice/interpretation/assistance regarding a punch mark and/or "marked indent" on one of the forward locking lugs of a NS RIA 1903 Springfield bolt.
There is some kind of a mark(s) that can be seen on the enlarged photo as well as the round punch mark seen on the other lug in the other photos.
The person who recently purchased this bolt from me sent it to be parkerized and the
CMP
told him it was unsafe because the mark meant that the steel was too soft.
I wish not only interpretation, but documentation/reference for these "marks" / "indents".
