    Inscription inside stock on 1944 Izhexsk M44

    Hello;
    I have been lurking here for some time, about time I introduced myself.
    I'm John, while I collect just about any milsurp, most of my collection is Soviet era; it's where I started and frequent the most.

    I have been going through my collection giving everything a thorough cleaning, re-oiling the stocks, and taking detailed photos. When working on one of my M44s I found this inside the stock.
    It's been a while since my 1 semester of Russianicon, any takers? I know 3A is "for".....

    More pics in next post;

    John, I terribly sorry I missed this post until now. I would like to start off with a hardy welcome to milsurps.com. We have a great bunch of fellas here who are all willing and eager to help with any questions or issues.

    I wish I had some sort of answer for you regarding this scribing but I don't. Stand by for someone will come in and help

    Sorry, couldn't resist, and for the record, I'm not one who can help you with this.

    Sorry for the delay in response, been a bit busy.
    I also posted this on a FB group, and got a pretty good response. On that post I included another pic of the receiver. One guy said it looked like the engraving is the serial number of the rifle, repeated once!
    The serial is CA 3905 (the original on the barrel) and the handguard looks like "3905 3905: now that I look at it.
    Having seen "For Stalin", For the Motherland" and similar on tanks and airplanes, with "3A" being "For..." in cyrillic, I was looking for something not there. Duh......
    Interesting (to me" anyway.
