    That smell..

There is nothing like the smell of old metal, wooden stocks, cosmolineicon and gun oil... After being cooped up all weekend caring for a sick wife and kids (flu).. the wife felt well enough to give me a few hours in the garage....

What better way to spend the little time I got..field stripping, cleaning and oiling some guns..my 1945 Garandicon, 1943 K98icon Mauser and a 1942 Webley markIV did the trick...3hrs of uninterrupted and blissfully quiet time...

    That smell

For me it’s the perfume the Air Franceicon stewardesses wear. Ooh ah!

We had a welcome warm trend this weekend. Got up to 70 with no wind. The kids and I went out and took a trip around the world - WWII style. Mosin M44 & 91/30; K98icon; Steyr M95; Swissicon K31; MAS 36; Enfield No4 & No5; Arisakaicon Type 99; M1icon Garand, M1 Carbine; Carcano FAT 42; Tokarev & P38. Tons of fun. If you love the smell of rem oil our basement is the place to be!

I have a Mauser 98k that smells like a horse! I wonder if it was used by a horse mounted calvary unit? Also I remember when I was a kid, which was prior to the gun control act of 1968, I mail ordered a P14 Enfield (29.95) --- when I unpacked it had that great smell of cosmolineicon that is burned into my memory. The absolute worst smelling thing ever was an L1A1 buttstock that I picked up. I'm not sure if it was some chemical it was preserved in or a caustic cleaning material that caused the funk. Salt Flat
