    New Lee Enfield - EAL?

I just purchased a Lee Enfield. It looks a lot like an EAL rifle but under the bolt is a stamp that says: SMLE Lithgowicon 1940. I thought that the EAL rifles originated in Canadaicon and bore the CA stamp, but this is nowhere to be seen. Any thoughts?

Nice looking sporter. Definitely not an EAL.

Any idea what to do with the rear sight? It currently is positioned directly over the slot where the charger strip is supposed to be inserted. If I take this off, which is pretty easy, which sights should I replace with and how would they be attached?

I suppose you could simply replace the original backsight and bed onto the original barrel

Where would I go to get an original sight?

    My EALs for comparison

Shown are my three EAL rifles that have EAL markings for the sake of comparison.

Neat front sight too, a 1903 Springfield I believe.

Mike: Why not use the peep sight as mounted? It nearly doubles your sight radius relative to an original sight. Not much need for charger loading on a deer rifle.

Definitely a sporterised Lithgow SMLE Mk III - they're incredibly common in Australiaicon and New Zealand, although usually they still have their military sights on them.
