Very neat Mark. But, what does it do, was there any kind of description around?

This particular one was carried by a member of the Alaska National Guard, and also has the even more rare blast deflector used by a few units in the arctic. Sweet! Anticipated price point: small foreclosed house.

My guess is reduces dust signature.

I can see why it disappeared though, You can't mount the bayonet with it...
