Doesn't look lke part of the sight to me, more like something on his back sticking up.

Would or could it be a spigot from a RG probably not looking at it again as it looks way over 30 cal diam!

I saw that, they look like something has been put into them to square them up for display(inspection) or photos...

It looks like the sight leaf turned sideways. I believe it is just something in the background.
