The Sherman tanks pictured are M4A3E2 "Jumbos". Having been hit hard by Axis tank and anti-tank guns, the allies modified some 254 Shermans into Jumbos between June and July of 1944 to serve as "Breakthrough Tanks". By adding lots of armor, 3.5 inchs in front - doubling their frontal armor to 7 inches - they hoped these tanks would be able to stand up to anything coming their way (to include 88mm).

Very much so, also fuel consumption. I was glad to turn in my up-armored HUMMV for an MRAP.
