Jim, I was hoping you would see this Picture. I knew you would like that Beast of a Rifle. The Soldier himself carrying it i was wondering if it was issued to him or he wanted it. Years back when i held one at a Guns Show i was thinking. "Man, You would have to be a Big Boy to Carry this around."

There was a formula for the issue I believe...maybe one of the senior soldier (U.S.) issue, could explain...something about fourth man, rear rank... They may be large, I've owned three...but they sure work nicely. I had a Marlin Rockwell, Royal Typewriter and a NESA...one from each conflict. Seemed to me the range just came into their own at about 800 yd...

The story I heard the last time this came up was that they formed ranks left right and front to back starting with the tallest and going to the smallest, then they went to the back row at the small end to select the BAR man. Why? Because the BAR drew fire and he would need to be able to "get small" in whatever cover he could find.

A co-worker of mine was the BAR man in his Korean war squad.. he was the smallest ...everybody else's job was to pick up the empty magazines and re-load them....
