The trim on the GI's garrison cap looks like silver or gold. I suspect this is a general officer. He does look familiar.

With an M1 and full cartridge belt? The man he's meeting must be a Senior NCO as he has nothing on his epauletts, no SGT stripes, so he must be a WO 2 or WO 1...his rank is on the far sleeve. The B&W pics make the guess on his trim hard...
