Unidentified weapon part?

Hi All

Following on from my recent posts regarding the relics I have been recovering from a British army dump, this item also came out of the ground and is eluding identification. As a consequence, I thought I would ask here, see if anyone recognises it.

Seems to have a pattern number on it that indicates a weapon part, but I just can't track it down, despite digging through scores of pictures of stripped down weapons.

If you recognise it, please let me know! It measures about 3 inches across at its widest point.

I don't have a definitive answer but it looks like an adjustable pawl for a ratchet on some machine. If it is military, perhaps an artillery piece or a winch? Wild guess at best. Tom
