for target shooting, to attach back end of the sling to or near the staple on fore stock, IIRC I've seen these along time back but, dkdn't know what it was for where can I get a bedding screw with sling swivel attached to it?

Look for Parker-Hale swivels. No. 215D for an SMLE or No.215J for a No.4 rifle.

ebay, or use a single point sling. The only thing with a single point is its a big load on the wood and might cause some issues. Hence I use a 2 point.

For CMPicon-sanctioned vintage military rifle competition, the US M1907 and M1icon slings are allowed. Either is a good choice, requiring no added swivel.

Excerpt from CMP Games Rulebook -

    3.6 Rifle Slings
Slings that comply with this rule may be used to provide support in the prone,
sitting or kneeling firing positions in CMP Games events in accordance with
    these regulations:

    3.6.1 Standard U. S. Military Slings
Slings used on all as-issued military rifles, except M1 Carbines or as-issued
foreign military rifles, must be standard U.S. military issue M1907 leather, or
M1 web slings or identical slings of commercial manufacture made of leather,
    web or synthetic material.

3.6.6 As-Issued Foreign Military Rifle Slings
As-issued foreign military rifles (Rule 4.2.5) may be equipped with a sling that
was originally used with this type of rifle or, alternatively, a leather or web
sling that complies with this rule (Rule 3.6) may be attached and used with
    as-issued foreign military rifles.

Yep, use a US M1907 sling with a Parker-Hale target center sling swivel or similar as said above, this was a standard for the No4 'T'.

Nope....... The leather sling was only issued with the No4T sniper rifle whereas the webbing sling was issued /approved for both

And remember that the P-H front trigger guard sling swivel is not nor ever was an issue item on the No4, No4T or the No8 - nor nuffink else! There is a distinct and instantly recognisable difference between the Ordnance issue sling swivel and the commercially available P-H sling loop
