1943 Long Branch?

Hello to all.
I discovered this website after recently purchasing a 1943 Long Branch from a friend and after doing a little research.
I would be interested to find out a little more of the history of the rifles in general and of my rifle (if that is at all possible). I would be happy to share photos and/or serial numbers if this is appropriate.
If so, if somebody could please point me in the right direction.

Thank you for your reply. I will be looking to add some photos in the next couple of days. By the way, the addiction is true, I have recently purchased my second LB and I will be collecting it some time this week. It is supposed to be an un-fired 1942 model....We'll see, watch this space.

There's lots of threads on the No.4 LE's and a wonderful Knowledge Library available on this site. You've got literally hours of reading ahead of you, but you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about the Long Branch Lee Enfields and more. My primary shooter is a beautiful '43 Long Branch to which I've attached a Parker Hale 5C target sight. I also have a virtually pristine '50 Long Branch. They're dear to my heart as my uncles carried them in WWII and the factory itself, or what's left of it, is just south of me on Toronto's lakeshore.

I picked up my second LB yesterday. This time it is a 1942 model. Itwas supposed to be "as new" but I had my doubts as soon as I saw that all the bands were clearly marked "S". Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that the mark is a Savage mark. The main body looks pretty new to be honest and the barrel. I have tried to make out the markings on the barrel but they are un clear. As stated previously, I will try and post some pics as well as do LOTS more research on my rifles.....Cheers..

As one of the Moderators here often says if they go through the base workshops then the armorers are not worried at all about matching stuff up just grab the bits fit it up and get it back out in the field to do the business and considering the age of the weapons we are now collecting what stories they could tell. I use chalk on the stamping's to highlight them then easy as pie wipes off then just oil the parts up as per SOP

Very interesting CINDERS, thank you for the feedback. I just assumed that if my rifle was in fact original, then savage bands wouldn't have been placed on it from factory. I will use the chalk method and try to get some readings...
