WTK: US Springfield Trapdoor

I have had this US Springfield Trapdoor since I was a younger man, (64 now). I bought it from an older neighbor who was in his 80s. I need to know what model Trapdoor it is.

Metal Markings:

US on top of Butt Plate

Serial number on receiver behind trapdoor is 45815

Both barrel Bands have a U

There is no Bayonet Lug

The Lock Plate does not have a date but has US Springfield with an Eagle

Stock Markings:

There is a circle behind the trigger guard with scowling in it

Behind the receiver tang is a large 39 stamped into it

The action is very tight. Hammer and trigger work Great.

Is this a converted Civil War Rifle.

What is the value of this rifle?

Sorry for the bad pics. I took the in the basement and I will be putting up better pictures in the very near future.

U.S. Military Trapdoor- U.S. Rifle Models 1873 to 1888:
Covering numbers: 1 - 567834.

The year of manufacture for serial number 45815 is 1875.

Rifles, carbines, and cadet rifles were all numbered in the same series.

IMO what ever model it was when originally built, it has been up dated to M1884, with the Buffington rear sight and shallow arch breach block. The front sight is the bayonet lug. It seems to be missing the under barrel cleaning rod.

Your rifle is serial number 45815X. There is another number that you haven't noticed after the 5. Look again. What you have is a U.S. Model 1884 that was made in 1889. It is in
45-70 caliber. It is not a civil war conversion.
