Pity some of the chest contents are not there also the screw heads on the front pad goodness, if it happened in the depot like that then if it is un-issued that' s a bit sloppy. Can I ask Peter would that quality workmanship be allowed or would you get pasted for an ill fitting screwdriver on those screw heads marring them like that.

Don't even bother to look. Just take it from me that there is/was no such thing as an unissued L42. That description if from the land of fairy stories

I know for a fact that some were sent to Australia, and were used in trials. My understanding of those examples was that they were new rifles when they arrived here, and unissued as the rifle was never adopted by Australia. The story I've heard is that by the time they were sold off, only three rifles remained with their scopes, one of which is at the Australian War Memorial. The other two which had scopes are in private hands, but they've definitely been shot. Their condition though, would probably be some of the best around.

Odd isn't it, I certainly wouldn't regard myself as an expert on the L42, but looking at the limited number of available pictures it appearers to be a very nice example indeed ... So why all the "unissued" twoddle, people just can't help themselves sometimes, they just have to add a totally unnecessary tall story to the sale.

I bet the seller is an estate agent...

Thanks Peter. You took the words from my……. fingers! I've had 60+ in the past 20 years. Some every bit as nice as that one but I would never ever describe them as unissued. I'm working on one now that was flogged to death and I bet it'll shoot every bit as good as that one when I'm done.

Just out of pure conjecture and interest.........does the number throw up its past history from anyones records. I have a feeling, don't know why, that number rings a bell

I think it's probably one of the hand picks as sold by Navy Arms in the early/mid 1990's. The ones I imported/sold left with user handbooks and the printed CES. I also included chamber sticks and both the metal and plastic cased cleaning kits since I had them in quantity at that time.

I don’t understand what’s so great about unissued. To me it would be worth more if it had some history.

I know people from different places around the world see things differently. We can become programed like a computer by the trash the media feeds us. But as they say, “money talks” and here an old civil war pistol with a few notches will fetch more than one with none.
