Devils teeth - Siegfried line, I wonder was it Patton who had taken a winkle into the Rhine that wanted to hang their washing on the Siegfried line or was it Churchill? any clues TIA My bad looking at WWI stuff been out hunting all day picking off crows re edited to the right one in the right conflict

I've read that it was referred to as the Siegfried Line, and the tank obstacles as "Dragon Teeth."

Patton is said to have commented that fixed or defensive fortifications are a monument to man's stupidity, or something like that. To the allied armies these fortifications were merely a hindrance, that they didn't even need to air assault to breach.

Reminds me of the U.S. 32nd Division veteran of the Great War I interviewed, that fought in the area of the Maginot Line, and still had a map of Fort Douaumont that he had found while exploring a portion of the fortifications.

They are really smart and pass information down to their kids. Read Robert Ardrey -- if you shoot a crow you will have a bad rep among all crows for THREE GENERATIONS. Amazing.

All this talk about crows reminds me that they had a problem in Massachussetts (or however the b****y place is spelt) with crows being killed on roadways.

It seems it was so much of a problem that they had to bring a committee of Ornithologists from 3 universities to perform a massive study costing the state buckets of money. After months of study, analysis and deliberations the committee announced their findings.

The committee found that the crows being killed were feeding on the grain dropped or spilled out by trucks transporting harvested wheat, corn and barley during the harvest. It also found that the crows were smart enough and organized enough to have another crow standing watch over the feeding crows to warn them of approaching traffic. The problem was that while crows had no trouble saying, "Caw", none of them could say, "Truck".

Is not that like happened to me when reversing the 160 tonne Leibherr crane in a tight spot and duly placing spotters and asking them if it looks like I am getting close to warn me, yup they warned me after I hit the earthen berm I was backing up to.
Paul wasn't the other word they could not say was **ck! after their mate was hit by the truck.........!
