Saginaw SG ?

I have Larry Ruth's book,but wonder if there's any newer evidence as to whether Saginaw SG might have used Marlin barrels in the 3404xxx range. MARLIN is very,very lightly struck (can't tell if it is dated or not). Has what appears to be double struck (or chatter) non-serifed p 5 inches from end of muzzle (on top). Outside of barrel is "ringed" like Underwood. Gauges just under 1 at the muzzle.Shoots 2.75 inch groups at 100 yards , off rest ,if I do my part !!

I've seen Marlin barrels on Std Products, NPM, and one on a Quality Hardware. Being confused on the Quality I asked the person I bought it from. Turns out it had be replaced for him a few years earlier.

I never say never, but have not personally seen one on an SG.

I'd expect the sn to be much later if I ever encountered an SG with a Marlin barrel. I have a Saginaw with an original Winchester barrel but it was made in the second sn block, using free-issue barrels left over from Grand Rapids which had closed.

If your barrel was originally off a QHMC or NPM carbine, the proof mark should tell you. I don't know the Standard Products or Grand Rapids proof mark well enough to distinguish it from a Saginaw proof. But that is what you must look at to answer your question.

I remember meeting you. My birthday weekend May 7th/8th 2011 at the Wilmington display show. I also met Philip Schreier there from Gun Gurus. I joined OGCA then and am still a member. Paul also had some of Marcus's guns which made for a nice Carbine display. Did you see the grenade launcher and ammo display that was there? I think in came in second to the Winchester display. I don't recall Paul placing, but I can't remember for sure.

I brought home a lot of items from there.

Jim; Tammy and I have rarely missed an OGCA show since joining about 1988.Tammy is really into this with me. The display shows are awesome !!! I've picked up 5 outstanding (non original) carbines there in the last 3 years. We'd surely love to see you and Paul come back !!! Hope all is well !

52m37, Welcome from upstate New York. Opps, Sorry about the possible insult of Vermont on the other side of the water.

CC NewsLetter #384 was the last written before they closed the club. The Carbine Club was started in November 1976 by a group of Carbine enthusiasts and closed it's doors October of this year. A 39 year run. Monthly newsletters until the last few years when they went quarterly. I'm sure many of us have them.

Jim. Please forgive me for correcting you. The Carbine Club did not close, we went to an online format. If you click the link you posted you will see much great information on carbines and explanations of the parts and differences. If you look to the left side menu where you will see "forum" in that forum there is a section "Newsworthy Items" where we are posting the current newsletters currently Jan 2016 and March 2016 items. In that section you will see the COMs now called Featured Carbines.
All new items posted have a link to open a PDF where you can save or print.
The reason we feel this would be a better format is that you can now post below the article and have an open discussion on the items. This is a far better medium for sharing information and helping research on parts.
