    A 1916 project....

I don't post a lot on here but I do a lot of lurking around. I have been interested in Enfields for a long time, since I was a teenager. My favorites are the No 1's. I also have a penchant for mechanical things, assembling things from parts and coming up with a functioning item. One sad thing you see in the US all the time is that people strip down Enfields for the simple reason that the parts are worth more than the whole rifle. So, I take it upon myself to spend my winters putting things right as best I can. Yes, I know these rifles will be worthless bitsers in the end, but the satisfaction of putting one back together is worth it to me. Anyway, here is a pic of one of my projects. A 1916 BSA Mk III* body I am planning to build up. I have been getting parts at gun shows and online auctions. I am hoping to make this rifle a reality by spring. Just need a few more bits....

Never say a Lee is worthless like anything restorers do is to breathe new life into their projects and you are doing just that wish I had the knack of building things as I always end up with spare bits left over differing from what the instructions say. They are worth remembering just like the '03's, P-14's and M-17's what stories they could tell us some not so good though! Good for you Bear43

I applaud you for your effort. To me Lee Enfields are borderline sacred! The monetary value is only a small part of their mystic, good you spend time giving them life again.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Couldn't agree more........I started tinkering with Enfields when I acquired my first SMLE at the age of 17. I have rebuilt, repaired & refurbished gok how many in the intervening 40 years & I still never tire of it. Each one is a challenge & so rewarding once it's finished.

    Well done!
