It is my understanding that the standard M1905 bayonet (16") pictured, was preferred in the Pacific over the shortened M1905E1 (10") because the Japs had a long bayonet on the Arisakarifle.

I really doubt there was a choice provided for the bayonet that was issued
...and even less so for the Marines.
