    Pattern 14 Enfield Question...

What does this barrel stamp mean?
I found it on the barrel under the stock.

Does it mean Maganese, Nickel Steel?

    OK and another one...

I have to say up front this is my ugly truck gun...the receiver, barrel and bolt are all different numbers, ERA receiver, Winchester barrel and bolt.

Someone cut down the wood, but left the metal and Iron sights intact (thank goodness), but still she out shoots any #4 I have used.

I paid around $90 for it a few years back just weeks before Johnson hardware in Nanaimo closed.

Recently due to the impossibility of finding stocks and hardware to restore it, and the fact the numbers are all miss matched I have decided to clean the old girl up, which is why I have been noticing these marks as I have only had the stock off a few times before for a quick cleaning.

Also does anyone know the metal will take to being cold blued?

I have a P14 Enfield as well. Have all the wood but am missing a good deal of the metal parts like barrel bands, correct butt plate etc.

Anyone have an idea of where you might find these parts? I have been looking for years and so far not much luck

    Milsurps parts source

Bands, butt plates and other parts for P-14s and M-1917s and lots of parts for many other milsurps, can be found at Military Historical Arms and Antiques in Glendale, California. (818-846-4509... ask for Paul)
Don't think they have a website yet, but will after a move in the near future to Globe, Arizona.

Paul knows his stuff and is always a pleasure to do business with, just don't get him started on California gun laws!

Thanks Terry, I took note of that phone number!

I'd add that I did get a few parts for my P14 refurb from BDLicon ltd, and was quite happy.

Calum, as far as cold blue goes, I'd test it on a small area somewhere on the underside of the receiver maybe?
