    Strange TT-33

    Hello,

I have come across the pictured TT-33. I have very limited experience with these firearms so I wanted to see if anyone here can determine exactly what this is.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like a Hungarian M48 to me (Hungaryicon's TT-33 variant).

Thanks! That's interesting. Is there any value to these? I looked around and don't see many for sale. As for the lack of import marking, does that mean this was some sort of bring-back or perhaps just imported before the markings were required, if that time ever existed? Any idea on date of production?

I believe 02 was the Hungarian factory code, so if I had to take a guess the date I would say 1952 as 52 follows the factory code. That would also make sense as it would be right around when Hungaryicon would be manufacturing these.

I personally have never seen a Hungarian one in the flesh, they aren't very common in Canadaicon. I have no idea in regards to value, in Canada you might be able to see 300$ for it, but a regular TT-33 is about 200$. In regards to your import marking, I believe it was required in the States starting in 1968, but I only have a passing knowledge in regards to import markings, we don't see to much of those in Canada as they aren't required (at the moment). To put in perspective, out of my collection, I only have 3 rifles that have import markings, and I believe all of them have spent time in the States at one point or another. I personally doubt it is a vet bring back of any sort, likely just imported before they were required or maybe this one got missed somehow for the stamping.

The reason you haven't seen any prices for them in the US is 'cuz there just ain't any here! You found a good one. If you don't want it I'll gladly take it.
