M1 Carbine Ammo

Has anyone ever used this CORBON Ammo in there M1 Carbine. If so, I was wondering how it performs in a Carbine. This has more Velocity. Hornady Critical Defense is 110gr. and 2,000 fps compare to CORBON 100 gr that is 2025 fps. I paid 35.00 for a Box of 20, but looked like very good HD Ammo. TIA.

I've not used Corbon or Hornady because they are to expensive for my budget so I just use my ole' .357. Note; I've never had to take out of drawer in 40+yrs except to have some fun!!!!
Question; When was the last time you really thought you were in a home defense situation??

It really makes no difference anymore. Used to be living out in the sticks was safer as far as major crime happenings went. Nowadays the drug dealers seem to be doing more and more business out in the boonies away from the prying eyes of the law. Lots of isolated county dirt roads in my area, several of which run through my property, and I've witnessed a couple ''transactions'' going down. What else could a dozen or more inner city ''hoodrats'' be up to way out in the country late at night? No all happen in night either. Early one morning last summer I was sitting on my front porch enjoying a cup of coffee before heading off to work and observed 4 vehicles meet up at the end of my drive where it meets the state highway about a quarter mile from the house. Two came from one direction and two from the other. Two briefcases were exchanged and they went their separate ways. It lasted about 3 minutes. Pretty bold move considering my next door neighbor is a sheriffs deputy and the deal went down in sight of his house.
Couple years ago(according to what my buddy on the narc squad told me) a deal between gang members from Florida and another from Columbia, S.C. went bad about 5 miles from my house leaving two of the Florida bunch and one of the Columbia gangsters dead and several more on each side wounded.
There's been a rise in rural home invasions in the last few years as well. So far the drug deal at the end of my drive was as close as it's come.

VH...Your exactly right. I live in a Newer Sub Division right about where the City Limit ends then you have King or Chapman Ranch start. There's All kinds of people going out there doing the same thing. There's housing on these Ranches for the workers and these days you can see traffic in and out of these roads that lead toward where I live. I was thinking it has to Drugs also being made or transactions. When a guy that's does those types of drugs they will go through our neighborhood looking around to find anything to steal for money. I've had my Truck broken into 3 times. We had the Sheriff's Dept on the News telling us to be on the lookout for any suspicious vehicles driving by real slow and giving us details what to do. Also being in the Marine Corp and and seeing what people are capable of i'm always ready. I guess that's the part of me that will never leave. I would hate to be put in that situation and hope I never have too, but I have a family to protect and there priority.

Luckily I have not had to deal with anyone, but I have seen people parked outside at 2 am when I can't sleep and wonder what the heck there up to then you hear something outside very late you have to have something for protection when checking outside your home. The City is where a lot of stuff like this happens. Then the Home Invasion reported on the news and you find out 1 or 2 was in your neighborhood. Hopefully you live in a City where nothing like this happens, but it does around d here and when it does I rather have something that will take them out. Preferably a Semi-Auto Carbine in my case.

Maybe because they have never tried anything else apart from standard 110gns ammo?

100gns travelling at 2025 fps actually has LESS energy than 110 at 2000 fps. And as both bullets have the same cross-section, the lighter bullet will lose velocity faster and be more wind-sensitive than the 110gn bullet. Not that one would notice that either, unless testing under carefully monitored conditions at long ranges (for a carbine).

The nominal difference of 1.2% in muzzle velocity and thus also in bore time should not make any noticeable difference in the carbine's self-loading action, being quite possibly less than variations between various lots of standard ammo from different manufacturers. Vihtavuori published loads for 100 gn go from 2001 (min. load) up to 2196 fps (max. load) and so the Corbon seems to be fairly conservatively loaded. RWS published loads include 93gn and 73gn pistol bullets, the latter producing a whopping 685 meters/sec (2247 fps!). Presumably a "healthy" carbine copes with this as well.

Ok then, no, I've never used it and not about to at those prices. I'm quite content to stick with the plain old garden variety 110gr JSP or HSP loads I've been shooting for the last 30 years. It worked just fine on the 100+ head of deer& hogs I used it on. Never did buy into the notion where fancy overpriced ammo was needed for home/personal defense no how. I've always figured if ever comes the time I need to defend myself or home with a gun then whichever one I get to first with a loaded magazine will be the best I can have.
If the expensive specialty ammo makes folks feel more secure then more power to 'em.

I confess I bought a box of Critical Defense and loaded the 30 round mag in my Inland house weapon with it. The two 15s in the stock pouch are full of R-P 110 FMJs. I think Critical Defense will do a REALLY great job of making "Nasty Goblins" into "Good (dead) Goblins..."

My Carbine is much handier for a house weapon than my AK or AR, and much more intimidating than my pistols. It won't over-penetrate other structures a much as the 5.56 or 7.62x39 will, either.
