Do People Fake Slings Also ?

I need a lesson from someone who knows slings. I know this doesn't quite pertain to the Carbine and all it's metal parts, but do people fake Slings, too. I have a '45 Inland that needs a Sling. I have a few, but there D tips. I read where they were never blued and the Buckle is thick and the Webbing is a different pattern and has a W Inside a Circle on the buckle and read that someone said they were fake. Both have the same name under the female side snap and appear different (Boston, Mass.) and they were all suppose to be Flat. Now I think there both fake. Can anyone tell by these 2... I was going to use one on my '45 Inland. Thank You for any help you can give.

A fake is something someone deliberately sells as genuine but is not. A reproduction is something sold as such with both the buyer and seller being aware.

Slings for most older firearms are reproduced and many are sold as genuine. Reproductions are generally sold for a third to half of what an original sells for. They usually look brand new. A fake can be "aged"

I don't know much at all about carbine slings so can't help you if yours are real or not. I'm not a purist so I use reproduction slings but I'd be pretty ticked if someone sold me a fake as an original.

Hi Frank, Try whatacountry.com. They currently have used original WW 2 era C-tip carbine slings in good condition for $52.00 each. These go pretty fast when they get them in stock. Regards, Jim

Thanks for the tip...I did and bought the last 3 C tips they had in Stock. They said they were coming out with more real soon. They were going through a cleaning process which I have no clue consists of, but I bet it steaming, washing and some type of freshening. I hope. I ended only using 1 and put the other 2 away.

Martin; How do you tell the difference between an M1 and Reising sling? I purchased one yrs. ago but it was 1.25" wide and is just like an carbine sling, so I use it on my tommy gun.

Of course, there is a lot of ambiguity concerning sling application. An M1, Reising and Thompson sling are fairly interchangeable. And I may have spoken too soon, as the pictures don't show what I thought I saw - which would have been a greater distance between the snap and the post. This greater distance allowed for a keeper to be used on the snap end of the sling for the Reising application.
