This will be the first time I've missed the April show in over ten years. Just to much going on here at home.

    impressions having attended...

no4's are out the roof on price. one guy had a 1943 longbranch at the right price, $325. then he told me he had sanded and refinished the stock. i kept walking. every other no4 on the floor (yes, i could have missed one or two) was priced at $500+. if no4s are really worth what they sell for at gun shows now, some folks on this board are very rich.

i guess i was the only one chasing no1's. found (and bought) a 1940 Lithgowicon, and a 1941 lithgow, all with good characteristics, including good bores; all priced less than what the no.4's were going for. also found a shtle I*** of the ER series. good metal, good bore, complete (but incorrect) stock.

conclusion -- the enfield milsurp market is constricting; decent specimens are difficult to find. prices are going up -- fast.

think i'll start collecting bayonets. don't tell anyone. maybe i'll have them all to myself.

    Cowboy,

I went to the Clagary gunshow last weekend, (Canadaicon) and No 4's were on average in the $700.00 Canadian. (about same price as down there.) Bad thing was a lot of them had been sportered, and Just been given NOS or even Springfield Sporters DP fore-ends. Some of the fore-ends moved back and forth, so just chucked together anyhow. Buttstocks were the old ones mainly but front wood was often rough and unhandled looking.
Seems a bit of a beggar, if someone can take a $175.00 chopped Enfield, stick a new fore-end on it and price it at $700 plus.

Bayonets up here are already stupid prices..
