One way of looking at this is that the offender had in fact 'committed a victimless crime - on the basis that there was no aggrieved person or injured property nor anything tangeable. A bit like not wearing a seat belt really although in that case the non wearer is liable to be the author of his own misfortune - eventaully. I call it natural selection.
American Rifleman | Keefe Report: Another “Victory†for UK Gun Laws
I would only say in response to Peter is that the yes the guy knew better, but the punishment does not fit the crime, as is common in a totalitarian state like UK or a Commonwealth.
I see you closed my post. This site will not have to be burdened by my bothersome and impertinent presence any longer.
Mate, I suspect that you aren't familiar with similar events happening in New Jersey, New York, Maryland and California. Trust me, the NRA has reported numerous cases in which they have been no more merciful to those, veterans and others who didn't playing by their rules including some who were simply travelling through their jurisdictions.
Imagine how full the jails would have been if they had done it to the Vietnam, Malaya, Korean WWII, WWI vets and all the bring backs it never ceases to amaze me that a persons who's only claim to life is getting a neon suntan 8 hours a day not a minute over in time scouring the land in the hope of making someones life a misery. And the closest they will come to injury is a paper cut or trip over an errant power cord, instead of facing hot lead and some other crazed person hell bent on killing you. It just wrankles me no end the stupidity of the laws they trust these guys to defend the sovereignty and then cane them badly it just does not add up to me not one flipping iota.......
