    No7 bayonet querie

Was going to resurrect an old thread for this but decided to start afresh. Just had to trouble shoot a No7 bayonet querie and it's this:

If you are attempting to strip your No7 bayonet down there is what appears to be a third grip screw and nut (7 & 8) attached to the swiveling socket part (item 12 -see Sten Machine Carbine, p345 illustration 341). This 'screw' (8) is NOT a screw but is in fact a shaped/contoured PIN that actually retains the socket to the tubular handle. If you try to rotate this pin you will severely damage it and the round bayonet handle or grip beneath it.

YOU CAN ONLY RELEASE IT BY UNSCREWING AND REMOVING THE NUT FIRST with a tough forked screwdriver and then push it out to release the inner workings. The Armourer that got in there previous to you might have burred the pin (8) over slightly to prevent loss. Just go carefully and it'll come apart

While you have it apart you might like to take out the long GUIDE pin (4) and remove any burrs or imperfections from the smaller diameter which is the cause of the socket positioning catch sticking.

Not the best thought out bayonet, nor the most popular - nor strongest but certainly among the most collected so look after it
