Replacement Stock Decision

Just received my new to me sportarized 1903a3. Came with an extra military stock in bad shape, so am thinking of total replacement. Would appreciate any input regarding options. As I see it, I could go with a CMP stock or what vendors call a GI replacement Scant stock from Northridge, Numrich, or Sarco. Any suggestions or opinions would be welcome.

Numrich has a S stock for $113. No hardware.

I've got a 1903 that came with a replacements scant stock that had been poorly fitted, so I put on a numrich C-stock. If they or sarco still have them, that's an option. Mine required almost no fitting, just for the butt plate.

I think I'd look for a GI M1903A3 "straight" stock. They're still not that expensive. If you plan on using the rifle for shooting, I'd get a Type C or Scant. Scant stocks run the gamut from very finely finished to those that look like they were carved out of an economy 2x4 from Home Depot.

Just be careful if you are looking at any kind of reproduction stocks. I bought a Repro C stock and it had about 1/4 inch extra meat all around. The grain didn't look right and it was soft, which made it hard to work and sand. I could of bought a nice original S stock for the same money. Learning curve- vertical! Salt Flat

Try a Sarco scant stock for a shooter, I got one that fit so well I picked up another for a spare. Nice bedding contours easy to match a hand gaurd and old high density walnut.

There's a bunch on ebay, not sure what your budget is but there seemed to be original examples in the $40 price range all the way up to the $475 price range. Auction prices so they're bound to go up tho...
