Possible defective Inglis HP?

This morning I was clearing out my inbox, and this auction for an Inglis HP was in a saved search:

I realize the "Z" indicates there's a major defect of some sort...do the red and yellow paint swatches have any related significance?

We have many threads here about paint color and what they mean. One for cadet use, one for drill purpose...hard to say what's wrong with this one until it is examined by the right individual. The mismatched barrel could be a start.

It's a Navy Arms import and I think I can see the stamp just above the left grip panel. It'll say GEMCO PRINCETON NJ if memory serves. I saw many that were Z or ZF when they were imported in the 1990's. I have one with a tiny splotch of yellow paint on the trigger pin denoting that the axis pin hole is worn. Peter Laidler will hopefully chime in with his much more detailed knowledge. The barrel may have been replaced by a post import civvie owner as all the ones i had that came via Val Forgett at NA Co. were in the white cardboard boxes with NATO stock numbers and straight from the disposals unit at Donnington. There were some with replaced barrels, (most CAL marked), but they were numbered to match. Most still retained their original, matching numbered barrels. Some even had partial decals on the front of the grip frame and except for some handling marks had seen very little use. The good old days!

Loose locking shoulder was another favourite that was a 'Z' fault. Only fixable at factory level. Not strictly true as anyone could replace and rivet a new one in but they were never in the Ordnance system.
