Validate my Original Unissued No.5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine

Posted this in another forum: Unissued No.5 Mk1 Lee Enfield - Album on Imgur and was immediately told it was not original, as the buttstock, bolt and rear sight were incorrect for the following reasons:

    1) buttstock has S stamped so it's a 'short' buttstock which were never fitted on No.5's. rifle measures 39.5" so I know it's the right length: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

    2) Rear sight is a half of Fazakerly and Long Branch. The idiot thought the crown on the right side of the aperture was an LB...so that's proven wrong, plus the aperture is marked F on the left side.

    3) Bolt is a replacement..even though it's matching serial number with no apparent sign of an 'original' serial number being marked out.

I even had Brian Dickicon with BDLLTD confirm it's authenticity and originality.

Again, here are the photos: Unissued No.5 Mk1 Lee Enfield - Album on Imgur

Everyone is saying I should just admit I'm wrong, but I know I'm right.

    What do you think?

    Fantastic find...congratulations.

If Brian Dickicon has already given you his opinion that it is original and correct, I think you pretty much have your answer... no?

You've asked a straight question so you deserve a straight answer. I don't profess to be a 'jungle carbine expert' but I've owned quite a few, & have just rebuilt one from the ground up only this last week, & FWIW yours looks ok to me.

    Hope this helps.

The bad news is your bayonet has been issued and some one screwed up and put the grips on upside down...... The rifle though is mint, nice piece.

Parts from all sources were put in to stock inventory and used, I have just unwrapped two No4 No4 Mk2s this afternoon, and one had a Long Branch barrel band, this rifle hasn't seen the light of day since 1955

Hesalite, if you know that you are right over this rifle, then there is nothing wrong in being in a minority of one.

Carbine looks about perfect, but you DO need to change your grip slabs to right side up. Also, I have a frog that would come closer to correct for the scabbard, rather than a long one for a #1 Mk3...just PM me and I'll mail it to you. It's green but they sometimes were.
    Regards, Jim

Thanks for all the replies guys! And thanks to those who told me about the bayonet grips being upside down! I've fixed it already. You guys are great.

You are wrong in one very minor respect. You say that it's unissued. We don't make them to not issue them. Theyve ALL been issued at some time
