    CMP winchesters question

did the CMPicon install out of stock barrels on the winchester service grades?
reason i ask is that the ones i've seen seem to have pretty new looking barrels although they have dates from about '52 and before.
    thx,
    goo

I received a SG Winchester today.

It is nice enough but I kinda wish I hadn't ordered it.It has a new CMPicon stock that looks well enough I suppose. But it doesn't resemble any Garandicon stock I ever saw. It wasn't Walnut. It looked like Poplar. The metal finish all over was as black as coal. The TG was new, a 65 series SA. The bolt an SA dash 12, appeared new. The barrel is a 2-52 SA and new. [MW is .5] the op rod WAS WRA. I didn't look yet to see if it was modified or not. The sights, both front and rear, were late SA.

All in all, I suppose it is functional, about as new, but a relic? It kinda made me sad to see the ol' girl like this.

It is a service grade. Maybe I will grow to like it but I doubt it.

    Question CMP Winchester

I agree with Larry. Got my service grade Winchester last Thursday. The only thing Winchester is the receiver (April 43). New CMPicon stock, which looks fatter then a Boyd. HRA bolt and gas plug. 2-55 SA barrel, SA trigger group. Havn't taken it all apart yet. Not sure if it was worth it, but its mine now.

Many WWII rifles were rebuilt in the 1950s. The 50's barrels were probably installed then. It isnt beyond reason that CMPicon switched a barrel but my understanding is that such serious rebuilding is avoided. I hope this is responsive to your question? H
