There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.
Standard load, cartridge belt and two bandoleers. He probably has four grenades in those cargo pockets. The entrenching tool was a real PITA but very necessary.
Real men measure once and cut.
Very cool picture. It looks like he has a Germanstick Grenade also.
They tended to cut the handle, didn't they?

They did and on the "T" handled model they were made considerably shorter.
