    "Unmarked" Spanish Mauser

Recently I picked up an unmarked Spanish Mauser, serial# 46921. Its actually the reason I joined the forum since it doesn't have any ID marks beside the serial #, but I quickly found some good info in the database. I have no idea of the value, I got it almost solely because it's chambered in .308.

Somewhere along the way the gun was refinished and every external piece has been parkerized, it looks like a brand new rifle. I bought it for $200 so I feel I did pretty good. Can anybody tell me what it's worth?

Hard to tell without pictures, but $200 seams fair for any used .308 bolt action rifle.

Hate to break it to you but these are not exactly safe to fire 308 rounds although a lot of fellows do. They were designed for the CETME cartridge which is the same size but lower pressure. It's a small ring mauser designed for lower pressures than the 308 develops. OK if you handload but I wouldn't recommend using either 308 or 7.62 NATO in it.

In that it is an unpopular rifle due to the ammo difficulties and because they were scrubbed of all markings, they aren't worth much on todays market. I've seen them sell for as low as $120 and seem to average around $180. Petersons lists them in Good condition - $150, Very Good - $175, Excellent - $250. Prices depend on it being in original military configuration.

Parkerized almost sounds like it could be an FR-7 which would be worth more but still not recommended to shoot with full power ammo. These have a short stock and a modern looking muzzle break on the barrel.

Pictures would tell us which model you have, but the part about CETME ammo applies to both.
No reason to push your luck, or wear the rifle prematurely.
