    Unusual Bren Barrel Handel

Is this a genuine Bren barrel handle perhaps made this way as a wartime economy measure or is it something that has been produce at home by some-one??? Thanks for any info.

Can't see it clearly enough to identify it positively. Give us the EBay ID number. The actual handle part is definitely not correct

The right angled handle part is definately from something else but the straight handle part MIGHT be the GRIP, butt from the earliest Brens. There are a lot of fakes of this part so beware. The actual wooden grip part for the but grip and the carrying handle parts were identical. The butt grip was removed quite soon because it was a) useless and b) expensive and c) fell into disuse because, as they usually do, the soldiers in the field found a better way of holding the Bren when they were firing it - with the left overhand grip.

When the butt grip was removed, they were returned to Ordnance and used as carrying handles for the 2" mortar. Waste not, want not!

Attachment 74840 Simple answer, it's for a BAR not a Bren.
    Regards, Jim

Well done Jim that explains it. Does anyone have a picture of the grip handle in use as a carrying handle for the 2" mortar that they are able to post, please?
